In spring of 1997, Mr. Lee L. Morgan, Retired Chairman and CEO of Caterpillar, Inc., and his wife, Mary Morgan, announced their gift of $1.5 million to endow the Food and Agribusiness Management Program and the ACES Information and Alumni Center.
FAM
Director Mike Mazzocco commented that "Mr. Morgan's generosity strengthens
FAM's goal to remain a premier program in educating decision makers. It allows
the FAM program to be more responsive and creative within the rapidly changing
field of food and agribusiness management. The Morgan gift will provide resources
for the program to remain competitive and current while creating and disseminating
knowledge and information in a dynamic environment."
Mr. Morgan received a degree in general agriculture in 1941 from the College of Agriculture. In 1972, he was named president of Caterpillar Inc. and served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1977-1985. Morgan currently serves as a director of the UI Alumni Association and is past director of the University of Illinois Foundation. He was recognized for his outstanding accomplishments by the University in 1978, when he received the Illini Achievement Award.
